Friends and boosters of our SMHS and RSMS band programs, we just entered a new dimension of fund raising and we need as many volunteers to make this work as we can get!!

For years, the SMHS band boosters have presented our "Night of Starrs", showcasing our Jazz Band with dinner, dancing and silent auction. The past two years we included singers from our talented chorus for that Big Band era feel. It was held in various places, lately at the PTC United Methodist Church facility on Peachtree Parkway and Windgate Rd. We had great volunteers and raised some great funds for our band programs- it became our second largest fundraiser after concessions.

IT IS TIME TO RAISE THE BAR FOLKS!!!

Thanks to the vision and leadership of current booster president Rick Harrell, we were approved to rent "THE FRED" for one day, April 24. Now we have to get to work and create a game plan to make this the #1 fundraiser, which also works to either decrease annual fees or maybe even allow the band students to take a well earned trip! Do you realize our SMHS marching bands have taken GRAND CHAMPION in 5 of the last 7 marching festivals they entered?!?!?! They need to be showcased!!

The first of several planning sessions will be at the SMHS band room this Thursday evening 1/28/2010 at 7 pm. We invite ALL who want to play an active role in the "1st Annual Night of Starrs at The Fred"! Here are the first items we need to discuss, amongst others:

1. Ticket sales- our thoughts are to have each band student, marching and non-marching, sell a minimum of 5 tickets. Any number of tickets sold above that 5 will have a set amount, say $2, go into their student accounts to offset future fees. We think tickets will be sold for $10, which is an awesome amount for what the public will witness and be a part of.

2. Silent Auction team needs to be selected and ideas for auction items and donors need to begin now.

3. Corporate sponsorships and ads sold- this event will be heavily advertised in PTC and Fayetteville- we want to invite all businesses to make a donation in return for an ad in our program to be viewed by hundreds of consumers!!

Food/concessions and entertainment will round out the discussion at some point soon.

Please consider this new endeavor with us! Meet us at 7pm this Thursday 1/28 for an hour. You'll be glad you did!!
