2008-09 SYMPHONIC BAND & WIND ENSEMBLE GROUP PHOTOS
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 6th!

Members of NEXT YEAR’S Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble need to bring their full concert attire to school. Group photos will be made during the day. And yes, you read that right, this is NEXT YEAR’S group – so, for example, if you were in Concert this year, but you made SYMPHONIC for next year, this applies to YOU!

More details to come, but make sure you have all your PARTS, fellas, because you’ll ALL need a bow-tie for the group photo. Can’t use a community tie like you did for the individual shots! And if you wore it to prom and got it dirty --- well, that’s another issue. 


SENIOR BALLOON FUNDRAISER
These bundles can be used on your mailbox, graduation sign or anywhere you can think of to say “CONGRATS GRAD” At a cost of $12, each bundle consists of 5 mylar balloons (1 congrats, 4 stars) with a decorative weight to hold them down. If you’d like to ORDER Senior Balloons, please complete the form and send payment as described on the flyer.

If your neighborhood has an email list, or if you know of families with an SMHS Senior, PLEASE send this flyer out and share it with those families! We want every senior family to have the opportunity to honor their senior (and support the band!).

UNDERCLASSMEN PARENTS: We need your help! On Thursday, May 23rd, we will be filling the balloons and assembling the bundles. We will have a morning and afternoon shifts. If you can come out for even part of a shift, please check the band web site for a sign-up page to come help.

SPRING MARCHING REHEARSALS

Mark your calendar for the spring marching rehearsals starting next week!

- Monday, May 5 (4:00 – 6:30 pm) – Rookies (8th graders & new marchers), Section Leaders, and Percussion
- Tuesday, May 6 (4:00 – 6:30 pm) All Marching Band
- Thursday, May 8 (4:00 – 6:30 pm) All Marching Band
- Monday, May 12 (4:00 – 6:30 pm) All Marching Band
- Thursday, May 15 (4:00 – 6:30 pm) All Marching Band


BAND BANQUET
The Band Banquet is Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. Families are asked to bring a main dish and a side dish. The Boosters provide the beverages, dessert, and paper products. The entire family is invited, including younger (or older!) siblings.

Students will be recognized for their achievements this year and seniors will be honored.

Do you have extra photos? Donna Noble is looking for photos of band kids over the last year to have as decorations and for students to take home. If you have duplicates of photos you can donate, please contact her at DonnaLo@aol.com.


MARCHING BAND FORMS – FEES - PHYSICALS
Spring is in the air, flowers and pollen are in full bloom, and marching band forms are abundant!

All forms have been posted on the web site --- check the FORMS link on the left and follow the directions to print and complete the forms.

The first one due is the DEPOSIT SLIP, with your $100 (for instrumentalists) / $150 (for fall auxiliary) due on or before Friday, May 16th. Complete the deposit slip and enclose it with your check in a sealed, labeled envelope. Drop it in the white box OR mail it to the Band Boosters’ new box:

FCBOE-required forms can be picked up from Mr. King, Dr. Poor or from the front office already printed. They are also available on the band web site to print at home.

$20 PHYSICALS AT SCHOOL
SMHS will again offer physicals at the school for $20 ... cash or check (payable to Starr’s Mill High School). The date is May 8th, after school from 3:30 - 6:00ish.

Ms. Watkins will be pre-selling spaces in line next week during lunch in the cafeteria. Take your $20 cash or check and purchase yours EARLY IN THE WEEK. You will then be called in from marching rehearsal as your space in line is about to be called. BUY EARLY so you can be toward the FRONT of the line.

Parents, be sure the first page of the Physical Examinations packet is completely filled out, and send the entire packet with your student. The school will KEEP the packet after the physical is completed. We will get a copy from the office for our use.


ONLINE MAGAZINE FUNDRAISER
By now, you should all have received an email from KATHRYN ROTHFUSZ inviting you to participate in the online magazine fundraiser. Several families have already sent out emails and are already generating cash! Cash that will help offset your band fees next year!

The fundraiser will automatically generate two more reminder emails. This is an EASY way to raise funds to reduce the cost of band for you next year. If you have questions, please contact Kathy Rothfusz at KathyRothfusz@SMHSBand.org.
